Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts are to be submitted via Peer X-Press, the online manuscript submission system for the on-line Journal of ASTM International (JAI), located at http://jai.peerx-press.org. From that link, select ISRD-14. Please note the following:

  • Manuscripts should be submitted to JAI prior to the Symposium. If this is not possible, there may be limited opportunities at the Symposium to submit your manuscript.
  • The official publication of your manuscript will be JAI. A hard-bound volume of those manuscripts accepted for publication in JAI will also be provided to full-fee Symposium registrants.
  • Manuscripts are limited to approximately 6000 words. This is equivalent to about 12 single-spaced pages using 12-point Times New Roman. Note: This differs from the on-line instructions for a full-length manuscript.
  • As long as you adhere to the 6000 word limit, you do not need to worry about what font you use. The on-line system will reformat your manuscript appropriately for both the on-line journal and the hard-bound volume.
  • Manuscripts must be prepared in Word 2003 or earlier (.doc) format. The on-line system cannot handle Word 2007/2010 (.docx) default formats. If you do use Word 2007/2010, you must save it in Word 2003 format before uploading.
  • Microsoft Math Editor equations in Word 2007/2010 do not convert properly to Word 2003 format. These equations must be prepared using Math Type or Equation Editor 3.0.
  • Color is acceptable for figures. However, the bound volume will be printed in black-and-white. Authors must test this prior to manuscript submittal to ensure that colors translate satisfactorily for black-and-white printing.

The following documents may be useful during the preparation of your manuscript:

Electronic "preprints" of papers presented at the Symposium will be distributed to all registrants. In addition to the on-line submittal, authors are requested to submit at the beginning of the Symposium an electronic version of their manuscript (Word or PDF) on CD/DVD or USB drive. This should be formatted with 1" inch margins with a page size of 8 1/2" x 11" or A4.

Presentation Guidelines

The area available for poster presentations is approximately 45" high and 90" wide.

Oral presentations are allocated 15 minutes for presentation, and 5 minutes for questions. Microsoft Powerpoint or Adobe PDF presentations are acceptable. Authors must have their presentations available on CD/DVD or USB drive for preloading prior to their sessions. The Symposium will not have transparency or opaque projection capabilities.
